While reading highly inspiring Poetic Cloth (2019) by Hannah Lamb, within a chapter that explores trace and transparency, I came across what she terms as 'shadow stitch'.
I deeply resonated with the author's observation of delicate qualities of wispy materials lending themselves to subtly translating complex layers of meaning (p. 48) and I felt compelled to experiment with one of the suggested stitches to create a sense of 'shadow' on a transparent fabric.
I have decided to experiment with applying successive strands of herringbone stitch to my well-worn and slightly ripped transparent top.
I have also contemplated the possibility of using the shadow stitch to critically engage with the notion of dichotomy between private and public.
